- Note*: John was a lieutenant in 1st Company 9th Battalion Lancaster County
Militia in 1776. Promoted to Captain in 1777. Served thru 1779.
Because of their strong religous anti-war stand, argument is made that
John Grin Kingery was shunned by the family and changed his name to
Kingery. This would also explain him distancing himself from his parents.
The 1783 census for Shenendoah Co., Va shows John's household consisting
of 4 white souls and 1 dwelling.
The 1790 census for Washington Co., Md shows John's household as 4 sons
under 16 yrs and 2 daughters.
The 1810 census for Washington Co., MD shows John's household as 5 males
and 3 females.
John eventually moved to Greenfield, Ohio where he farmed and owned a
grain mill. He left his son Jacob in Maryland at an early age to handle
his lumber interest. - Birth*: 1751; Lancaster, PA1
