  • Note*: Three brothers: Christian, Jacob and David came to America in 1727 as
indentured servants, via the Port of Philadelphia, serving in Chester
County, PA. They came from the Palatinate section of Germany. It seems
the family originated in the Co. of Konolfingen, Canton of Bern, in
1389. In 1669 a Christian Gingrich escaped from jail, in Bern, and fled
to Germany. He was jailed for preaching the Anabaptist belief. The
family is mentioned next in America in Conestoga Township, Lancaster
County, PA assessment list of 1724. The family migrated down the valley
into Virginia, Maryland and west to the Mississippi river. They were of
many beliefs: Mennonites, Quakers and Amish. According to family
tradition, Jacob Kingery, son of Capt John Gingery, Revolutionary Army
1777, was converted to a Brethren when he married Susan Hubermal Watson
    (a widow) in 1822.

Christian Kingery and John Kingery of Warwick Township, Lancaster Co.,
PA became naturalized citizens in 1765. They scrupled to take an oath.

An inventory of Christian's possessions dated August 15, 1778 contains
eight different spellings of the surname: Gingerich, Gingirich,
Gingerig, Gingrich, Gingry, Kingery, Kingry, Kingirie and Kingree.
  • Birth*: 1707; Germany
  • Death*: 1783; Lancaster, PA1
