    Milly Lord's real name was AMELIA LORD, according to a book on Wilkinson county history written in 1930. Her grandfather was William Lord, large land holder in Wilkinson County at the time.

    Some say Milly was first married to a Lord (who might have been a cousin) and had two children, prior to marrying John.

Daniel Kingery

    Daniel KINGERY married Elizabeth HARMAN, 4/19/1780, in Lincoln County, NC. Witness: Anthony HARMAN (Brother); Clerk of Court: Andrew NEEL. After marriage, moved to Georgia and settled originally in Burke County about 1790. Relocated to Wilkinson County about 1805 when Indian lands were opened for settlement, original land was ceded by Treaties.

    Daniel died before 6/29/1819 as notice of sale of his property, following his death, was published in the Georgia Journal (Milledgeville) Newspaper issue of that date. Daniel is not on the 1820 census.

    The Wilkinson County Kingerys were the only Kingerys in Georgia in the census from 1820 through 1870.

Samuel Lafayette Kingery

  • Note*: Probably named for General Lafayette of Revolutionary War fame who visited Wilkinson County in 1825 to meet with some of his former troops. There was quite a profusion of boys named 'Lafayette' in Wilkinson County about that time. REF: Terry Boles, from book on Wilkinson County history written in 1930.

    Served in Co. K, 57th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee, C.S.A., Wilkinson County, Georgia, 'Oconee Greys'. Wounded at Baker's Creek, MS in 1863. Captured at Vicksburg, MS in 1863. Paroled July 7, 1863. Terry Boles has a copy of his parole after the capture of Vicksburg with his signature on it.

    Samuel Lafayette and Lafayette L. are believed to be the same person. C.S.A. army payroll vouchers are signed Samuel L. Kingery. The only place Lafayette is listed is in some Civil War records. Both names appear in the same company and enlisted at the same time. Believe just confusion over whether they were one or two people, although there are several records that contain both names. Some spelled Lafayette's last name KINGREY, which has probably helped to keep up the myth of two people. REF: Terry Boles
